UPCYCLING

Craft project using empty toilet paper rolls:

ELECTRIC CORD KEEPER

I have a fun and easy project for you to try.  It is not an original idea, but nonetheless, I have found it to be very useful and a quick DIY.  You can upcycle your empty toilet paper rolls and make this fun project.  It makes a great gift for kids and grandkids to do on a rainy afternoon.  Just follow the steps below to create your own Electric Cord Keeper.

Step 1

These are supplies and tools you will need:

  • Empty toilet paper roll
  • Decorative duct tape.  I found mine at Walmart for $3.48 a roll.
  • Scissors
  • Ruler
Step 1

Step 2

Cut 3 pieces of tape 5 inches long for each.  I stick them on edge of the counter, like shown below.

Step 2

Step 3

Place a piece of the measured tape on the toilet paper roll, overlapping ½ inch on each end.

Step 4

Cut a V-shaped notch in each end.  This will help the tape to conform better to the inside.

Steps 3 and 4

Step 5

Press the notched edges to the inside of both ends of the toilet paper roll.  Be sure to press down firmly so it sticks to the cardboard.

Step 5

Step 6

Place the second piece of duct tape on the roll, overlapping a smidgen on the previous piece of tape and repeat steps 4 and 5.

Step 6
Step 6

Step 7

Place the third piece of tape, also overlapping a smidgen on the previous piece of tape.  Follow steps 4 and 5 again to complete your Electric Cord Keeper.

Step 7

Voila! You’re done!

This picture shows how to use your Electric Cord Keeper around the house or in your garage.  You might even find more uses for this handy, dandy DIY project!
