hardening off: or to harden off, means to move new, tender plants outside for short periods of time, so they become accustomed to a change of temperature, sunlight, possible colder nights and less humid air. This time frame, called hardening off, is when new plants become hardy and survival rate usually increases by this action.
pastimes: hobbies, crafts, activities or other interests a person undertakes in their spare time.
