Sparkly Jar DIY Project

You are going to love this DIY project! It is so easy and quick.

To create your own

Sparkly Jar like the

one on the left,

follow

the instructions

below:

(Note: on cell phones, video could be above)

Step 1:

Use a quart-size jar. I try to repurpose so I used a jar that originally housed olives. If you don’t have a quart jar, you can buy one at Walmart for around $2.50. Next: I had acquired lots of corks and bottle caps, or you can use strips of aluminum foil, shiny clear rocks found at Dollar Tree, or anything that will sparkle and be heat proof.

Step 2:

You need to acquire a small string of LED lights like these that are battery powered. I bought this string at Walmart and found them year-round in the RV department. The cost is around $5.00. They use 3-AA batteries and have a timer, both features that I really like.

Step 3

Start arranging your lights and the sparkly material you have chosen. I used a wooden spoon to hold down the lights so I could distribute the corks and bottle caps throughout the jar. Note: Be sure to leave enough length of the lights , including with the timer, outside the jar, so you can hide it behind the jar.

Step 4:

Once you have your lights and sparkly medium arranged in your jar, turn the lights on and see if you want to make any adjustments.

Step 5:

Take a paper towel and chose something to trace a circle that is larger than the opening of your jar. I chose a yogurt lid to trace around using a pencil.

Step 6:

Cut out the circle making scallops around the edge as you cut around the circle. Then fold in half as shown here and cut notches in the folded edge.

Step 7:

Open the folded circle and fold in half the other direction and cut notches in the folded edge. When you open the circle, it will look something like this. If you want, you can fold a couple more times to add notches as you desire.

Step 8:

When you add your notched circle to the jar, it will look something like this. Put a rubber band around the edge to hold the circle in place.

Step 9:

I used a piece of string, but you can also use ribbon or ric-rac or any decorative trim to finish the piece. Once you get your decorative trim in place around the edge, remove the rubber band. It will look something like this.

Step 10:

Tah Dah! You’re done! Set your Sparkly Jar anywhere you can see it and enjoy. I turn the lights to the fading mode and if I turn them on early in the morning, they will illuminate for 8 hours then turn off by itself. Now everyday the lights will come on and go off at the same time. So, you can set the timer for any way you desire.

I love to see this everyday.

Makes me smile!!!
