I haven’t written a post for a while. We have been travelling to southeast Iowa and have reached our destination this week and are now camped in a beautiful RV park full of hickory nut trees. This park is close to the farm I grew up on and so many wonderful memories come back to me in these surroundings. Before arriving here, we journeyed through Georgia and Texas visiting kids and grandkids. The time in both places has been filled with priceless memories, ones that I’ll cherish forevermore! The grandkids always get me caught up on the latest songs and apps like Minecraft. Grandma is cool because she knows all about these things now! However, presently I am in shock because the very tip of southeast Iowa knows nothing about Uber, Uber Eats, DoorDash, or online grocery ordering from Walmart! Amazon may be able to find us but it’s doubtful! We have no vehicle except for our RV; therefore, we have a well-stocked refrigerator and ample supplies for a couple of weeks. On the other hand, Pizza Hut will deliver to the RV park we’re staying in, so guess we’ll be eating a lot of pizza, which is just fine and dandy with me!
A long time ago, when my young son and I had travelled by Amtrak to my parents in Iowa for a holiday, he said to me, “doesn’t it feel like we have travelled back in time when we visit Iowa?” And I answered Yes! Definitely! It seems like everyone and everything is moving in slow motion. Not that that is a bad thing, just different from what we’re used to. AND I love it here! You can actually see the stars at night because the sky is sheltered from the city lights. Back in time…yes! Indescribable! Quiet. Solitude. Perfect.

Are you making a hickory nut pie?
I don’t ever recall making a Hickory nut pie, but I can assure you my mother made hundreds of them in her lifetime! See my mom’s infamous Hickory Nut Pie recipe.
